The anti-social disorder is some what misleading because first thought would be to think that the person refrains from any social activities. A person with this disorder usually have problems with the law, have no regards to right and wrong, disregard the rights, wishes and feelings of others. They will manipulate and treat others bad with no guilt not caring for their wishes or feelings. They may lie, sometimes have substance abuse problems, or be impulsive. Here's the thing why I believe its called anti-social disorder is because the are often unable to fulfill responsibilities related to family, work or school.
Although the condition may begin during childhood a person to be diagnosed with this disorder usually have to be over the age of 18. To be fully evident for most people its usually by their 20s and 30s. In children, cruelty to animals, bullying behavior, impulsivity or explosions of anger, social isolation, and poor school performance may be, in some cases, early signs of the disorder. This disorder is considered life long although some of the symptoms can ease out over time like destructive and substance abuse issues.
Someone with the signs of the disorder may be apprehensive to getting treatment because they are assumed not to have any real feelings. People with this disorder rarely seek treatment on their own. Some may be forced to treatment mandated to therapy by a court or significant other. It may be difficult to receive proper treatment because it may be difficult to motivate the person to open up to receive it. The goal in the treatment process is to make the distinction and draw the line between lack of connection and feelings and behavior.
